DJ Tom Rust + Sax Player

B I O

Originally from Manchester, Tom started his musical journey at the young age of 13 years old playing saxophone in a ‘Big Band’ playing Glenn Miller, Charlie Barnet and Tommy Dorsey. These days Tom is a sought after singer and has become the ‘go to’ DJ performing at Weddings and Corporate Events worldwide.

As a wedding DJ Tom Rust works with his clients song lists to help create a memorable evening. Ensuring that the dance floor is full and that everybody has their favourite tunes played.

Tom will also play a 30 min saxophone set playing over your favourite classic tunes!

“Its’ more about the client than me“ ................. DJ Tom Rust

Your unique fusion of talents is something we rarely see. Can you tell us how your DJing journey began?

It started about 7 years ago on the coast. I was asked to DJ and thought “why not” I really enjoyed it the whole process.

How would you typically start off a wedding party when you are DJ mode, and at what point do you break into a saxophone set?

Difficult to answer that as every wedding is different and you work with your organiser and the bride and groom to give them what they want.

That being said Motown tunes are always a great start.

Obviously, the bride and groom know you are multi-talented, but what are the guests' reactions when you transition from DJ to sax player?

I try to keep it a secret from the guests until the last minute. It’s great to see smiles on peoples faces.

Which DJs inspire you the most and how would you describe your DJ’ing style?

I am in the service industry as a wedding and events DJ. It’s not about me or my style. I play a broad spectrum of music so that kids to grandparents can get up on the floor. I would say l am a musical DJ due to my musical background, l wouldn’t say l was a house or garage DJ however I do need to be able to play most styles and requests. I have worked with a diverse range of DJ’s and producers over the years from artists like  Gavin ‘Face' Mills of Copyright Crew of Defected Records to real dark side stuff like Nico of No U Turn Records. Every time you work with someone new you learn something and are hopefully inspired.
